Notes: Decoction or infusion of stems taken after childbirth to expel the afterbirth more quickly. The decoction or infusion was taken immediately after childbirth to expel the afterbirth more quickly. The stems were usually gathered ahead of time being pulled up, the roots cut off and the stems cut into short segments and dried. Then, just before childbirth, a small handful of the cut stems was steeped in boiling water for five or ten minutes. The woman could drink this tea for several days.
